Merzouga & Erg Chebbi

Your Gateway to the Sahara Desert
Merzouga is the small desert town on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes — Morocco's most famous sand sea, with dunes rising up to 150 meters. It's the final stop on almost every Casablanca desert tour: the place where the road ends and the camel trek into the Sahara begins.
Most travelers spend one night here in a Berber-style desert camp, watching the sunset (and sunrise) turn the dunes gold, orange and pink.
What to Expect
Camel Trekking
Ride a camel caravan into the dunes at sunset, guided by local Berber handlers — the classic Erg Chebbi experience included in nearly every desert tour.
Desert Camp
Overnight in a traditional tented camp with dinner, mint tea and Berber music around the fire under some of the clearest night skies in Morocco.
Best Time to Visit
October to April is most comfortable, with cooler nights. Summer (June-August) is very hot during the day but still popular for the desert sky at night.
