Ait Ben Haddou
A UNESCO Kasbah on the Road to the Sahara
Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified Berber village (ksar) of red-earth kasbahs on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, in the foothills of the High Atlas near Ouarzazate. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and has appeared in films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and the Game of Thrones series.
It's a natural stopover on the multi-day route between Marrakech and Merzouga, and most Casablanca desert tours that follow this road stop here for a walking visit of the ksar before continuing toward the Dades Valley and the dunes.
